anthropology

I am so glad Anthropology now ships to Australia. The dollar is so good at the moment I wish I had a pile of money to import their beautiful homewares. Looking at the website just makes me smile. I love their range of knobs, brackets and all of their hardware items in general.

karmann progress

I realise that I am being an incredibly boring and slack blogger... but the car... I am focused on my car right now. We have pulled the interior out of the Karmann to get to the floor pans which will be replaced over the coming months (subject to my contact in the USA getting the pans over!). All that brown stuff is contact adhesive which will need to be taken off... ew and boring!

Karmann dreaming

I am sorry for not writing for a while. I have not been doing anything that is very interesting to most. I have been dreaming and researching details for my Karmann. It now seems like Rob and I are going to have a go at taking "Gidget" off the pans ourselves after meeting a fellow VW owner. Apparently it is "easy". If you want to see how easy, check out this interesting blog. P.S. I love Karmanns, but not the colour of this one.... but it is still beautiful.

whites and linen

I was looking on etsy for "local finds" and thought I would try and find some interesting items in Tasmania. I came across an etsy seller who is based in Tasmania who does lovely linen cushions and who also writes a lovely blog marley and lockyer.
This lovely blog has got me wondering whether my whole "cover my couches in wild colours thing" is all wrong...

more fabrics

We have had an odd summer up here. Not particularly summery... just muggy. I have decided to get out the sewing machine and sew myself some new work skirts. My mother's aunt used to own a haberdashery store and I have been given some lovely fabrics. These skirts are lovely bright inspirational pieces. They are from here, here, here, here and here.

I am thinking this whole patchwork thing is just lovely and was surprised to find another Vendor who does this style. I found these here at www.couchgb.com and at desire to inspire.

Just look at these beautiful creations from Squint. The work in these is just beautiful. Serious project time required for these pieces of fabric art.

dreaming away

Just dreaming at work today about how nice it would be to work and own an antique shop - maybe like Melinda Fletcher from Ghost Whisperer (minus the ghosts). Pics from here.

Foster Puppy

I pick up my first foster puppy tomorrow from the Vet. He is super cute. I hope someone adopts him soon so that I don't get the chance to fall in love with him. I hope he and Benson love each other too! His owner is to be evicted from a home over the weekend and so the local charity has requested that homes be found for 9 dogs and 6 cats! Do you want to adopt him?

Hunter wedding

I thought that I would post one pic from Joel and Jess's wedding. Jess's shoes. So comfortable for such a big day and they went so beautifully with her Carla Zampatti gown.

Well I have been away on holidays at my brother's wedding down in the Hunter Valley. So I am sorry for the lack of posts. This pic is from inside the reception area of the Pepper Tree Convent - located near the Pepper Tree Winery in the Hunter. It was just lovely (although I am not sure we were supposed to be inside the building). I shall post pics of my brother's lovely wedding when I have sorted the photographs. With his new Wife being an artist the wedding had some stylish flair.. and so I would like to choose some pics that do the lovely day justice.

one down 5 to go

New fabric on the dining chairs... after shot

Dining chairs before.

Well the whole "if I write it down I will do it thing" seems to be working. Last night I finally recovered one of my dining chairs. I realise that silky oak is not everyone's cup of tea but I was brought up with Rosenstengel in my bedroom as a child and I still have a thing for it. I hope to get a rug for under the table which will go with my bold stripe that I have choosen.
I also now realise that I will need to learn to have my real camera on me more often so I can take more appealing shots of my projects for this blog. My Iphone camera doesn't do justice to some of my items. Hopefully I will get the other 5 chairs done tonight.

loving these

Today I am loving these handpainted shoes on etsy by Cocopunkz. I do believe I will be ordering myself a pair once the xmas expenses are cleared!

verandah thoughts

I recently opened the verandah up on my little workers cottage. I had bought a day bed from ikea which I had planned to move from the spare room onto the verandah and then I planned on dolling the day bed up with lovely covered pillows and making my verandah more cosy... but I was worried about the bed getting wet in the rain. I love this picture of the verandah on Jane Coslick's blog.

Gonna do jobs

As a part of my "if you right it down, it will help you get it done process" I thought I would upload some pics of my "gonna do" projects round my house.

Firstly we have my set of 3 tub chairs with lounge. I love the old fabric on these chairs and plan on re-upholstering them. I have been playing with ordering some samples from the US of some designer fabrics but have confused myself as to what pattern or print to use. I boughts these from Vinnies

The second pic is my set of 3 wingbacks which I also intend on re-upholstering. Will get there one day. Vinnies was my source for these puppies.

The third pic is my Karmann "Gidget". This is another project. I hope to have the floor pans replaced on her early this year if I can co-ordinate the shipping of the pans. I bought the Karmann on ebay and love it deeply.

The fourth pic is of a lovely claw foot ROUND bathtub that I picked up from "the junk man" in town. He is not really a junk man, he actually stocks a great range of ex-building stock items and the odd lovely item like this... we just call him the junk man round here! My bathroom in my house is actually quite modern, but I don't like my corner shower and I planned on restoring this tub for my bathroom. Don't worry, it it not rusted and does not need to be re-enameled.

The fifth pic is of a mahogany kitchen sideboard that I bought from one of those import shops here. I actually bought 3 pieces from the same shop and planned to sand the white and black cow print paint back and white wash them all. I have changed my mind and bit now and am thinking of "stripeing" this piece with black and gold paint. Anyways, it has been sitting half sanded back under my house for some years now.

The next pic is of a bookshelf that was from Freedom. This was one of the first pieces of furniture that I bought when I left school and started university. I now hate the look of the item, but it is a good size and I plan to white wash it and then fix my display. I don't actually read for fun so I need to fill the shelf with something else and get rid of my fake books.

The last pic is of some old 1910 silky oak chairs I bought off ebay. Now that my house is painted white I would like a bold black and grey stripe or something on the seats.

So these are some of the things I hope to get done this year! There are others like chaises, doors, outdoor 60s furniture settings, but I guess they will just be uploaded when I get to them... this year I am gonna try and get there!
